Join Femme Films on November 29th for their autumnal screening of Celine Sciamma’s most recent feature, the beautifully delicate ‘Petite Maman’ (2021).
Director Celine Sciamma is perhaps most known for her gut-wrenching romantic period piece ‘Portrait of a Lady on Fire’, but Femme Films is excited to explore more of her intimate filmography with ‘Petite Maman’. As a filmmaker, Sciamma focuses on an exploration of femininity where emotion is not spoken but viscerally felt and desire is firmly footed in the female gaze.
‘Petite Maman’ follows, eight-year-old Nelly, who after the death of her beloved grandmother, meets a strangely familiar girl her own age in the woods. Instantly forming a connection with this mysterious new friend, Nelly embarks on a fantastical journey of discovery which helps her come to terms with this newfound loss. Experience this fairytale of wonder and innocence all packed into just over an hour.
This will be Femme Films final screening of 2026, so join them in sending off the year with this bittersweet mix of melancholy and imagination.
Doors will be open from 6:30pm with an introduction and short film (TBD) starting from 7pm with the feature film aiming to start by 7:30 the latest. Feel free to stick around and chat after the film finishes and share your thoughts!!
