Open Call: Out of the Blue Summer Exhibition
From Lana Del Ray to Joni Mitchell, Blue has long been an evocative colour provoking mystery, mood, and tone in Western pop. culture.
Blue can also symbolise links to spiritual realms, from the blue skins of Hindu deities Vishnu, Krishna & Rama representing the vastness of ocean and sky, the sacred colour ‘Mayan Blue’ representing rain, fertility and divinity; to the divine blue hair of Buddha in Tibetan culture.
Out of the Blue conjures the all encompassing swell of the world’s oceans to our planet’s place in an infinite universe - full of possibilities. An unexpected visit from a friend, a change in our everyday routine, a moment in time to treasure. What does Out of the Blue conjure up for you?
Our annual Summer exhibition open call is now open. Submit your work via the form here/below/link in bio by Wednesday 1st July, along with a donation of £5 to take part.
Artworks can be in any medium and fits with the brief outlined above.
The exhibition runs Friday 31st July - Sunday 30th August, with a launch party on the opening night 6-8pm. Be sure to register for your free ticket.

All artworks must be clearly labelled with your full name, title of the piece, price (if for sale),medium and contact tel so we may label your work accurately.
We cannot accept any artworks past Mon 27th July, so please do take this into consideration when applying.
Please note we cannot be responsible for any damage or loss to your work whilst it is in transit, storage or exhibited at New House Art Space.
Unless sold, all pieces must be collected between Sunday 30th August - Sunday 6th September. Please note we will be closed for the bank holiday on Monday 31st August. All artists must arrange the collection of their own pieces - New House cannot organise any posting of work under any circumstances (we’re a very small team!).

Part Two: Mosaic Clubhouse, 20th May to 5th June
Private View: Friday 22nd June 6-8pm
In 2018 Ivin created a series of collaborative portraits with members of Mosaic Clubhouse, a mental health service in Brixton, South London. Thanks to support from Guildford Philanthropy this work is now being exhibited for the first time at New House Art Space.
Mosaic Clubhouse aims to bring people with mental health issues out of isolation. The clubhouse approach to recovery emphasises community and co-production; it is deliberately understaffed so its members are encouraged to take part in the day-to-day running of the centre, enabling them to meet new people and build their confidence.
Through numerous visits, Ivin has created a series of collaborative collage portraits exploring members’ identities. Each person decorates their own portrait using images they feel best represent themselves, giving us an insight into their lives and time at Mosaic.
Sam Ivin is also hosting an event on the 7th May - Collage Portrait Workshop

Being Seen and Heard
Being Seen and Heard - Without Changing Who You Are
About the workshop
Most people are told that being seen and heard, especially at work, comes down to confidence, personality, or simply speaking up more. In reality, it’s more complex than that.
This session explores why good work is often overlooked, how visibility and influence actually work in practice, and what it takes to show up authentically—without forcing confidence or becoming someone you’re not.
Designed as a taster session, it offers an introduction to some of the key psychological dynamics that shape how we are perceived and recognised at work. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how visibility really works, along with two or three practical ways to communicate your ideas and contributions so they land more effectively—without changing who you are.

Femme Films: Rye Lane (2023)
Join us this month for a screening of Raine Allen Miller's, Rye Lane (2023).
Femme Films is a volunteer run community cinema based in the Woking/Guildford area that aims to champion female-led films that go often overlooked in mainstream cinemas.
Rom-Com’s are so back!
Raine Allen Miller’s debut feature film Rye Lane (2023) follows two twenty-somethings, both reeling from bad break-ups, who connect over the course of an eventful day in South London. Our protagonists Yas (Vivian Oparah) and Dom (David Jonsson) take us on a tour around the heart of South London as they get lost in conversation, thought and a slew of whacky shenanigans. Rye Lane oozes with an infectious energy making it almost impossible not to fall in love with it. Visually, this film is pure cinematic candy. Every frame is intentionally packed full of energetic, stylish and colourful sets with a background cast of humorously accurate everyday people. With Rye Lane, Raine Allen Miller deconstructs the well-worn genre of Rom-Coms to create something so uniquely fresh with dialogue so sharp and fast you catch new lines on every rewatch.
This film is truly a love letter to London.
A magnificent gem, an even better debut… How is this just a debut??
Doors will be open from 6:30pm with an introduction and short film (TBC) starting from 7pm with the feature film aiming to start by 7:30 the latest. Feel free to stick around and chat after the film finishes and share your thoughts!!
Light refreshments will be available. The paid Cafe will be open before the film to grab whatever drinks you want. Popcorn and sweets however will be available for free upon arrival!

Transformation: Victoria Taylor
Transformation
A Lost British Artist Re-emerges After 40 Years
A contemporary of leading figures of the 1960s art scene and Royal College of Art graduate (1968), Taylor’s early promise faded as she withdrew from public life following personal tragedy. After profound loss, she chose never to exhibit her work again. Now living in a care home and unable to paint, her final wish was for her early works to be shown once more as Victoria Taylor, Transformation.
Discovered during a house clearance by her niece, some of the paintings are over 40 years old and represent the strongest surviving works from her abandoned home. It has taken several years to bring this exhibition together .
The Transformation series explores identity, otherness and metamorphosis through striking human and animal figures. The works are bold, confrontational and unmistakably original.
With the artist no longer able to create, these works form a rare and finite body of art.
Original artworks are for sale and range from £4,000–£10,000. Limited edition prints are in development and other items will also be available for purchase.
Transformation runs from 10 to 15 April. Join us for the opening reception Friday 10th April 7-9pm.

In Conversation with Ioana Barbu
Join us for a conversation with Ioana Barbu, who in 2025 won the Ice Ultra (230km across five days in Swedish Lapland) and the Highland Ultra (125km in the Scottish Highlands), then went on to complete all six Beyond the Ultimate races in a single calendar year, finishing with a podium at the Desert Ultra. In conversation with ultra runner and mental health practitioner Jen Clay, they’ll get into what the achievement actually involves: training choices, psychological strain, funding, recovery, and the practical reality of sustaining that level of endurance alongside full time work.
Jen Clay has worked in the charity sector for more than 15 years including in the UK, South America and USA. She holds a MSc in Global Mental Health with published research focused on stigma, and is the former Deputy CEO of Guildford-based mental health charity Oakleaf. She has delivered countless talks, trainings, and workshops on mental health and wellbeing, facilitating meaningful conversations amongst diverse audiences. Jen is also a passionate trail and ultramarathon runner, a strong believer in the power of nature and what can be discovered when we attempt challenges at the edge of our self-belief.
Step Into Nature: Northern Wind Community Walk
Community Walks are relaxed group walks designed to bring people together through shared movement, conversation, and time outdoors. They offer an opportunity to slow down, connect with others, and enjoy the changing landscape, with routes that vary from month to month.
Each walk follows a planned route and includes a mix of town walking, natural surroundings, and time to pause and connect. Expect uneven paths and some steady climbs, so comfortable walking boots, suitable layers, and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. The walks are social rather than fast-paced, with an emphasis on moving together and looking out for one another.

Women, Footwear and Freedom: 'Celebrating The Trainer’
As a female-led arts organisation, New House Art Space is proud to present a programme for International Women’s Day 2026, spanning multiple events, workshops and an exhibition throughout March 2026.
Opening Reception 6 March 7-9pm, exhibition continues until the 6 April 2026
Coinciding with International Women’s Day, Celebrating The Trainer: Women, Footwear and Freedom explores women’s complex and often contradictory relationships with footwear, with a particular focus on the cultural rise of the trainer.
Drawing on personal experience and interviews with women, the exhibition examines how shoes shape women’s bodies, confidence and sense of freedom. From painful school shoes and restrictive high heels to the liberation of trainers worn at work, on nights out and even on wedding days, the works address themes of comfort, power, femininity, sexuality and identity.
Artists respond to stories of damaged feet, social expectation and rites of passage, alongside reflections on the enduring allure of heels and the empowering potential of non-gendered footwear such as Doc Martens. Together, the works reveal footwear as both a site of constraint and a tool of self-expression.
Featuring photography, film, painting, ceramics and textile works, the exhibition even includes a striking wall of damaged feet, inviting audiences to reconsider footwear as a powerful, personal and political force in women’s lives.
The exhibition is informed by research by Professor Jane Ogden.
