‘Pot’ by Shriyani Batuwitage
Black and white, thrown, lustre pot
I am a ceramic artist living in Guildford and working from my Garden studio. I also teach in Surrey Adult Learning Centres to making decorative functional and none functional items. I initially drew inspiration from traditional eastern cooking pots, and subsequently developed my craft in contemporary style. I make exquisite pieces of work such as: platters, bowls, vases, jugs and water decanters. Through my experience I developed a series of unique interpretations of traditional forms in contemporary style imparting sympathetic embellishment and colour to create collectible works of art. My distinctive work is thought provoking and reminiscence of my ethnic background. Apart from my deep interest in hand printing and hand painting onto the vessels, the patterns are carefully planned and designed before being applied to individual vessels.
